Ryley is enthralled with R2-D2. He draws pictures of R2, dreams about R2, and wanted to spend money from his recent birthday on anything R2 splattered. Luke Skywalker? Darth Vader? Who are they? To Ryley, “Star Wars” is R2-D2’s story, slam that book shut.
Last night Ryley and I were sitting on the couch. I was listening to him talk about R2 when he asked this question:
“Daddy told me an actor sits inside R2 and makes him move. Is that true?” he asked, grimly.
“Yep, it’s true.” I answered with that cocked-head-I’m-sorry look on my face.
“Is it David Hasselhoff?”

Yesterday, my 5 year old – who is all about princesses and royalty – was talking about bees. Her older (almost 7 year old) sister said she saw a queen bee ALMOST sting her the other day when she was playing soccer. Here is where I throw in my 2¢ (that they don’t really listen to), that queen bees aren’t really out cruising around looking for people to sting. The girls continue their conversation, younger dd says, “I think I know what a queen bee looks like – is it just like a regular bee, but with a crown?”
I just love it!! I think he may be on to something.

Ha ha! Ryley’s guess may not be that far off — I’ve always suspected David Hasselhoff is not really as tall (or bulked out) as he appears on television. Unfortunately, I think the smarm factor is genuine.
R2 is my favorite Star Wars character, too. He’s certainly the unsung, unappreciated hero, getting the big guns out of all sorts of scrapes without getting much glory. Ryley is a smart boy to notice that. 🙂

that’s awesome. ever since my brother gave my son video cassettes of episodes I-III six years ago, my son and I have been full-on star wars geeks. we know far to much of each script. i love the line in episode one: (qui gon to little anakin): “always remember, your focus determines your reality.
