Beatrix celebrated her first birthday this past Saturday. We helped.
The cake’s theme reflected Beatrix’s nickname, Kitten, and her middle name, Violet:
Every guest at her party under the age of twelve wanted to eat the cat’s face. Consequently, I was forced to cut pieces around the head so nobody would feel needlessly triumphant or deeply disappointed:
The day was warm, happy, blessed. What a joy to watch her grow this past year from a dainty but intense six-pound miracle to a toddler—still dainty, still intense, always and forever our baby girl.
Oh, happy birthday Beatrix! What a lovely cake!!
Steph
What a sweet cake! Happy birthday, Beatrix!
Happy Birthday to your wee one! I really can’t believe she is one already!
That must be the cutest cake ever. Happy birthday, Baby B!
How is she already one? HOW? What a darling little cake. It is YOU to a ‘T’! (And Beatrix, from what you’ve written about her.)
I love the cake and the violet color-so cool! Wish I could have been there, but Hilary had a football game to dance at and then a competition at Elitch Gardens. It was a looog, hot day. Today I’m freezing.
Hope everyone had a lovely time, I prayed for you Friday and Saturday.
Happy Birthday! Love the cake (and the nickname).
I was thinking of you on Saturday. It’s killing me. Is it killing you?
One already?! My, how time flies. Congratulations and a very happy, if belated, birthday dear Beatrix.
What a fun cake!
Happy Birthday to Beatrix! Can’t believe she’s one already…guess that means I’ve been reading you over a year!
Wow. What a lucky girl to have such a great cake. How did you do the kitten?
I also want to know how you did the kitten! The light in your photos is always so well done. I have bad luck with birthday cakes.
Happy birthday to a very blessed little girl.
Amy, Inkling, others…
The cake was easy to make. Very.
Target did it. They have photo cakes. You don’t have to use an actual photo. We just printed out an image we made with Photoshop onto photo paper, using our printer. I took it to the Target bakery, where they printed it on edible paper, cut it out, and put it on her cake. It was seamless and turned out really cool.
My only gripe is the lettering. It looks like *I* did it! Oh well. It was delicious, too.
Happy first birthday to your Baby Girl
Happy Birthday! What pretty frosting.
Do you have a Bud and a Princess too?
Toonces, watch out!!!

We do have a Princess. No Bud, but we had a Bubby.
Awww, Happy Birthday Beatrix! One already, it took me by surprise to read it! I’m sorry that you don’t feel comfortable posting pictures anymore, I’d love to see her. The cake made me think of Tom Kitten!
Happy belated birthday, Beatrix!
Oh my goodness. ONE! One already?!
Happy belated birthday Beatrix.
Happy belated birthday (haven’t stopped by in a bit) 🙂
Happy belated birthday, beautiful girl! I just love this cake!
