Aidan wanted to go to Old Chicago for her birthday dinner.
We were seated with our standard six kids’ menus and two regular menus. Aidan opened hers and gasped, “I am too old for the kids’ menu!”
I looked. It was for kids ages ten and under. She is a very new eleven.
She told the waiter with a proud grin. He brought an adult menu for her to peruse. I watched her as she sighed and turned the pages.
“I don’t know what to get!” she complained. “There are too many choices!”
I told her which entrees I liked, which made her even more frustrated. Who wants to order Mom Food?
Finally, she snapped the menu shut with authority.
“I’m getting the steak!”
Eleven is expensive.
Steak? At Old Chicago? LOL, we don’t go out to dinner very often.

LOL! It must be such a joy to watch her as she grows from a child into a young woman.
You know they don’t always enforce their own age restrictions, right? My mother-in-law will often order off the children’s menu! 🙂
ps: my mom swears that I would always order the most expensive thing on the menu. I, personally, have no recollection of this…;)

Sounds like the name of a great book.

Go Aidan! She has grown up taste for sure. How did she order that steak? Medium-well?

If you think 11 is expensive, beware the teen years. (You should have seen my sister’s wardrobe — and she had very expensive name-brand taste.)

Yay for steak! Way to go Aidan!
I wish our Old Chicago was still around. Alas, it was closed down for violating liquor laws. I loved their food.

lol…that’s so something my 11 year old daughter would say. And you know what? She’d eat the entire thing, too! 🙂

Happy Birthday Aidan!!
Nick would be so proud, as he is our token family steak connoisseur. He orders it in some form or another at every restaurant we go to! 😉
Hmm, maybe that means we should all get together for dinner? Hehe. 😉

Oh yes! How I can relate to this.
Elliot no longer gets child airfare on our travels, either. The worst is that they all need their own meals now in restaurants, instead of being able to split meals.

Happy Birthday Aidan! I didn’t even know they had steak at Old Chicagos. Too funny!
: ) So funny. Such a milestone moment. Of course, next time you go out, feel free to tell her to pretend to be 10 again, just for the night, lol!
Hi Gretchen! I read your post at 5 Minutes for Parenting and thought I’d pop over to check out more! 🙂
