My last post about Martin Luther King Jr. disappeared. It isn’t here. It isn’t on my WordPress “dashboard”. It is just gone!
Where did it go? Has anyone ever had a post simply disappear, and if so could you tell me where it went?
Maybe Joel hid it in the produce drawer of our refrigerator, where I seem to find everything that goes missing…
edited to add: I just noticed a comment left for me by Russ regarding little Noah (very nice comment, thank you Russ) is gone too. It appears everything I have worked on between Monday mid-afternoon and last night has vanished.
How very true. I am impressed that your 6-year-old has even that much of a grasp of Dr. King’s legacy.
Good for you.
Hi, I’m new to your blog and thoroughly enjoying it! I found you through Rocks in my dryer, one of my favorite daily reads.
We have 7 kids, so far, and while I didn’t find what made for the worst year of your life, I am finally OVER the worst year in my life. I’ve never blogged about it, but I may some day.
Maybe you’ll enjoy some of my life happenings in our choatic home!
Well said, Sam.
Goslyn—the kids learned a lot about MLK at school, including watching a film about his life. They definately have a grasp on what he did, to a point. He’s an American hero to them in the same vein as George Washington or Abraham Lincoln.
Having a son who has dark skin has given me a very different perspective on what racism means to children. I’ve got stories good and bad; it’s true that most kids don’t mind a bit. It’s also true that they are sponges for their parents’ opinions, and there are still some intensely bigoted parents out there. What is most interesting to me are the questions my boy has already raised about race; how world history might have been different without it, what life would have been like for him (and for me) if he’d been born fifty years ago, a hundred, five hundred; what it means to be culturally white but dark of skin; he started asking these questions when he was about four. Explaining the answers honestly while trying to give him strength has been one of the most challenging parts of parenthood so far.
Oh, strange! I did see that post, and also the comment, too!
I could see the comment but not the post. For the past couple days though it’s been hard to access your blog. Often when I enter the address I’ll get a page cannot be displayed error.
Have you checked behind the couch? 😉
Actually, the same thing happened to me last week. Weird.
That’s weird. I don’t know why WordPress ate your post, but I do know that when I tried to access your blog today between about 10 AM EST and 2 PM EST, all I got was a WordPress error page.
Hope you can find your lost post!
Also strange – it seems you MLK comments are linked to THIS post? Funky.
Grrrr…oh well, I suppose I shouldn’t complain too much about the technical glitches. I haven’t had ANY trouble in the 2.5 years of blogging until now, which is a pretty good track record. I hope the problems are fixed.
I had that happen once. I received an email about it, something about pulitzer, and then later on the post was just a distant glint in my eye. 🙂
Or a distant dream. 🙂
I’ve had that happen a couple of times, but since I’m in Africa I just assume it’s my bad internet connection. I always write offline, so that when it gets lost, I can just repost. (not ripost, although I do that too 😉
